Member Spotlight - Jackie LaPlante
Jackie is leaving us and headed to Florida so we want to give him some love on his new journey!

What is your name? Jackie LaPlante
What is your hometown? Well, Los Angeles for a few more days...
How long have you lived in LA? 30 years
How long have you been in Sawtelle? On and off....about 3ish?
What do you do for work? I'm a graphic designer, or a visual designer, or graphic artist...whatever the company likes to call me so I could do 3 people's job but only get paid for 1.
What is your favorite TV show/movie? Hmmm.....TV show.....as in multiple episodes, seasons...Somebody Feed Phil? Movie....first out of my head is The Other Guys
What is your favorite book? Regular book: This Modern Love. I also read a lot of art books, and my favorites is the city series by my favorite illustrator Jason Brooks: London, New York, Paris
What type of music do you listen to? Mostly pop from lots of countries, dance (Like EDM, or anything that still has lyrics in it), and Indie Folk. I'm currently listening to Jewel and New Jeans, but my all time favorite is Natalie Imbruglia.
What are your hobbies? Probably murder. But shhhhhh you are not suppose to know that. So why don't I just say...art stuff. Illustration, graphic design, some motion graphics. But I also like sports a lot and used to play a lot but now can't find places to play any more. So I joined the run club and also hike maybe once a month. I take long walks with my dogs. I love to eat, and I recently really like to drink mead.
Favorite sports team? Used to Be Dallas Cowboys. But Jerry Jones is a terrible person and a racist so I just can't put up with that anymore. Are any team owners actually a good person? If I have to pick based on colors and mascots, I would say Dodgers, Detroit Lines, Indiana Fever?
Favorite place to eat in Sawtelle? Are we sticking with strictly the 3 blocks that makes up Sawtelle? Like from Grab a Crab to the movie theatre? I really want to say Furaibo because I love izakayas but I feel like their quality has gone down over the years and that makes me sad. So right now I would say Gindaco Highball (Even though it's shut down until March). I want to give a shout out to Sweet Cane Juice though. The girl that works there quit her office job to open up that store and I wish everything works out for her soon. Her juice is really good but unfortunately the location is terrible and I don't know if the average students would like juice over boba though.
What's a hidden gem in LA you think more people should know about? I feel sad I don't really have any like....hidden/underdog type of place to share? But any place where you could park, walk around with plenty of things to see and eat is a good place. Sometimes, it's as simple as the beach. Last week I took the dogs to Santa Monica during a week day and just walked up and down into the resident neighborhood, and the sun was hitting the skin just right and everything felt wonderful. Appreciate what you have, and savor every moment of it.
What pets do you have? I don't have any I fucking hate animals. But I do have two roommates Ryan Gosling and Ryan Reynolds. They haven't been paying rent for over 3+ years and they just sleep on my bed and eat my food.
Got anything you want to promote? I guess Sweet Cane Juice? Shop local and support small businesses if you can afford to. Treat yourself to something nice. You worked hard all week, you deserve a little treat now and then. Take care of yourself, physically and mentally. Your job doesn't define you; anyone judging you based on that is not someone you should associate with anyway. Say the word love more. To your partner, to your parents, to you friends. Don't try to change the world, but just try to influence those around you positively. Be the person that when you die, the people that love you will miss you. Punch a Nazi in their fucking mouth.
